Often times I find myself searching for time to relax and do the things I love. I constantly overwork myself and I’ve become drained and irritated with everything because of this habit. It’s easy for me to lose sight of how important it is to set aside time for myself instead of filling every moment with work, studying, plans or projects. I’ve learned that the easiest way for me to stay positive and happy is to find a balance between work and play. Yet when I get myself into the non-stop, busy lifestyle that I am prone to fall into, I can feel all of my negative energy passing on to others through my frustrations with my unbalanced life. It can be hard for me to take a step back from my jobs because I feel like I have to say I am available to work every day. Lately, I have become more aware of how important “Me Time” is for my mental health, and how important it is to take advantage of the free time I have.
My advice to those who have this same tendency to overwork yourself is to take a step back now. Don’t wait and say it will all get better after something is completed. Make the space in your life now. Take the time to enjoy the things you love like art, music, reading, etc., it will make you a happier and less stressed out person and it will make you more enjoyable to be around. If you fill your time with the things you love then your conversations with others will be about positive things instead of venting about the negative aspects of your work or lack of free time.
